Solar Panel Scaffold, Tamarian Close, Southampton - Cost £600

Project Overview

We recently provided a scaffolding solution for a solar panel installation at a property in Timarian Close, Southampton, SO16. This project required a safe, stable working platform to access the roof, enabling efficient and secure solar panel installation.

Project Requirements & Design

The client, a solar panel installation company, outlined specific needs for the scaffolding:

Dimensions: Approximately 10 metres long and 5 metres high, providing a safe working area.

Lifts: A single working lift was required to provide full access to the entire roof area.

Platform depth: A 5-board-deep platform was specified, providing ample space for installers, tools, and solar panel components.

Hire period: The scaffold was needed for a 4-week hire period.

Budget: The agreed budget for the entire hire, including erection and dismantling, was £600.

Our team erected a straightforward yet effective scaffold to meet these requirements. Key design features included:

  • A single, fully boarded working lift with dedicated ladder access and a secure ladder gate for enhanced fall protection.
  • High-quality timber boards laid five deep, providing a sturdy, spacious platform.
  • A 4-metre ground-level first lift was installed due to the presence of a single-storey pitched roof.
  • We incorporated a strategically positioned second scaffold lift extending onto the lower roof and carefully assessed it for structural integrity. This innovative approach maximised access while minimising disruption.
  • We installed safety features, including handrails and toe boards, on the top lift to protect workers.

Installation & Safety

Our installation process followed a systematic approach, prioritising safety and efficiency:

  • We conducted a detailed site survey and risk assessment to plan the setup and identify potential hazards.
  • Materials were delivered, and the first lift was erected, establishing the 4.0-metre base out lift.
  • The lower roof section was meticulously constructed to ensure stability and protect the existing roof structure, building onto the extension’s pitched roof.
  • All platforms were fully boarded, and we installed and rigorously checked all safety features (handrails, toe boards, and ladder access).
  • Upon completion, one of our qualified scaffolders inspected the entire structure to confirm compliance with industry standards (e.g., TG20:13/20 and BS EN 12811). We then issued a handover certificate to the client.

Costing & Outcome

The total cost for the 4-week hire, encompassing delivery, erection, and subsequent dismantling, was £600. Our experienced team achieved this competitive price through efficient design and streamlined operations.

The scaffolding provided a safe, stable, and perfectly tailored working platform, allowing the solar panel installers to complete their work efficiently and without incident. The integrated lower roof section proved highly effective for navigating the property’s roof structure. The project was completed on time and within budget, resulting in high client satisfaction.
